Room Hire

Several of the rooms at Octavia Hill’s Birthplace House can be hired for community use. The museum toilets on the first floor (accessible by stairs or lift) are available for use during bookings.

The Banking Hall

Our largest community room, originally built by Octavia Hill’s father James Hill for his merchant business.

This room is suitable for “messy” activities such as painting classes (with appropriate care) and can have the tables replaced with chairs for meetings if level access is required.

The Wisbech Room

Named after the pictures of historic Wisbech on the walls, this room is good for smaller groups doing an activity based at a table. This is our cosiest room in winter when it can be provided with fan heaters for comfort.

The Long Room

One of the museum galleries by day, the Long Room can be hired out when the museum is not open to the public. It is ideal for hosting group meetings with a speaker as it has a projector screen set into the ceiling and a good seating capacity, and it is equipped with a tuned piano which may be used for practice or performance. The Long Room is on the first floor with excellent views over the river, it is accessible by stairs or lift.

Please contact Museum Manager Jen Barback at info@octaviahill.org to discuss making a booking for any of our rooms.
